Wow! We did it — what a session.
The 2024 session of the legislature is in the books. With a constitutional limit of 35 days, it was like running a sprint every single day.
I'm pleased and proud to report to you that it was a very successful session. We stayed focused on the critical priorities facing Oregonians. Here's what we did:
We invested nearly $400 million to tackle our homelessness crisis and accelerate the production of affordable housing throughout our state. This includes substantial funding for emergency shelters, recovery housing, and rental assistance to help lift up folks at risk of homelessness, as well as substantial funding for shovel-ready infrastructure that will set Oregon on the path toward meeting our housing production goals.
We made a major $171 million investment to help working families pay for child care. Not only does that improve educational outcomes for children, it helps working parents get back to work. Affordable child care is an investment in a growing economy for all Oregonians.
I was the chief co-sponsor of a bill to create a community safety and firearm suicide prevention task force to develop solutions to this serious public health risk that is especially afflicting our veterans and seniors.
We addressed the drug crisis — making it easier to prosecute drug dealers pedaling fentanyl, boosted prevention education, and strengthened pathways to treatment including over $200 million investment in behavioral health.
And, following our successful ballot measure in 2020 — we finally ended Oregon's no-limits campaign finance system.
These big legislative wins are only possible because of your support during the campaign season. The candidate filing deadline is Tuesday, and that will kick off our 2024 election year.
Can I count on you to donate to support our Democratic values and priorities?
