Our tax dollars are funding these cruel attacks.
I'm horrified. Disgusted. Outraged.
At the height of the worst global health crisis the world has seen in a century, we're seeing reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials dousing detainees in custody at the U.S.–Mexico border with disinfectant chemicals, far beyond what could be required for health reasons.
These chemicals cause rashes and other skin reactions, bleeding, fainting, and more. Detainees are packed into small rooms by the hundreds. There is no clean air circulation.
This treatment is abominable.
Our tax dollars should not be funding chemical attacks on innocent people seeking a better life for their children. And certainly not in the name of a virus that directly attacks your respiratory system, leaving lifelong damage.
We are a nation of immigrants. But we also have a long history of villainizing immigrants. We must* change the way we treat our fellow human beings, especially in the midst of a global health crisis that has upended so many lives.
